I cannot stress enough the immense benefits of journaling in our lives. As someone who has been journaling on and off since my teenage years and consistently for the last ten years, I have seen firsthand the profound effects of freely releasing and expressing my thoughts and feelings onto paper.

Journaling provides a safe space for us to be honest about our fears, insecurities, anger, needs, desires, and dreams. It gives us a way to process what we’re thinking and gain an understanding and a broader perspective. With journaling, we have a place to sit with our life’s questions, patiently (and sometimes not so patiently) until the answers come.

Through journaling, we can turn inward and connect with our intuition and self-trust, so we can depend less on outside opinion and validation. It is a mindfulness technique that helps us drop all our protection mechanisms, and truth flows onto the paper. We channel the most authentic version of us, the child in us, and the wiser older version of us. They connect and collaborate, and something magical happens.

I have grown so much through journaling, and it has helped me to accept and love myself for who I am. Even when I stumble, when I dive into my old patterns of self-judgment and doubt and criticism, journaling always brings me back to my center and helps me get back to my right footing. Journaling is helpful even when, especially when, I feel stuck, and don't know what to do or what I want. That's when I write down questions, only questions because I don't have any answers. Eventually, the answers show themselves, in the writing, in my head, or through epiphanies that come when I least expect them.

I have journaled my way through some of life's most challenging moments, including a chaotic childhood, romantic relationships, postpartum depression, parenting, a 29-year marriage that ended consciously with respect and friendship, and creating a new me and a new life at age sixty.

Journaling has kept me grounded, honest, and fully present with myself, my family, and friends, and for all the dreams and ambitions I have for the precious life I have left. These are going to be my best years ever, and I know it's because my practice of journaling brings me home to myself time and time again.

I am convinced that the power of our truest selves being seen and heard by not only ourselves but also by a loving, supportive community cannot be overstated. I can’t wait to see you there!
